Instead of chemical preparations, weed growth is avoided by simple weeding and hoeing, mulching, more effective irrigation and growing several plant species together.
Natural insecticides are used and various methods (e.g. planting certain crops) are used to encourage the presence of natural predators of the pests.
The cotton flowers are often collected by hand in a gentle manner and without the use of chemicals to defoliate the bushes.
